Men's Tennis senior Trevor Foshey has had a powerful career at Mississippi State, but has an even brighter future ahead.
The St. Cloud, Florida, native has really made his mark at MSU during his time donning the maroon and white. Most recently, he was named the 2018 Southeastern Conference Tournament MVP after a valiant battle to clinch the Bulldogs' first league tournament crown since 1996. In that match, Foshey fought off multiple match points en route to forcing a third-set tiebreaker to decide the match, where he subsequently fended off more match points to lift State to a dramatic 4-3 victory against eventual NCAA semifinalist Texas A&M.
"It was a great feeling, but the better feeling was having all the guys just come over and jump on me," Foshey said. "It was awesome—probably one of the best moments of my life."
Foshey added that while that moment was great for him on the individual side, it was even greater at the team level.
Off the court after concluding his junior campaign, Foshey spent time building the future of American tennis as an intern with the United States Tennis Association [USTA], located near his hometown just outside of the Orlando area. With the organization, he had the unique opportunity to work with hundreds of kids and coaches in a very hands-on manner. This consisted of everything from checking in coaches to helping players warm up, in addition to making valuable connections with professionals from all over the country.
"What I think I want to do is to get into college coaching, so by with working with the USTA I made connections during the process," Foshey said. "That way if I want to do high-performance coaching there's an opportunity to do that, as well. I just know I want to be around high-level college tennis or at the professional level, so making the connections I made at USTA is going to help no matter what."
While he is nearly 10 hours away from home, Foshey knew he wanted to compete at that high level. He got that in the SEC and at MSU, where he has thrived and his future looks just as promising.
