Bulldogs, Schaefer Introduce "110 For 10" Attendance Challenge
January 31, 2018 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – In an effort to keep pushing the Humphrey Coliseum to be one of the toughest environments in women's basketball, head coach Vic Schaefer and his undefeated Bulldogs are encouraging fans to pack the Hump with a "110 For 10" attendance challenge presented by Cadence Bank.
Introduced during State's 90-53 win against Florida on Thursday, Jan. 25, "110 For 10" aims to shatter the previous season attendance record of 92,914 set in 2015-16 with a goal of reaching 110,000 fans by the end of this season.
If the goal is met, Schaefer will personally donate $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Starkville.
"Our team deserves 10,000 people in the Hump every night," Schaefer said. "I don't care what night it is; they deserve it.
"I want to also support our local boys and girls. (The Boys & Girls Club) is a place that's near and dear to my heart. I'm more than happy to do that for our players, our program and the Boys & Girls Club."
The Bulldogs are currently averaging 6,174 fans per game and will need to raise that average to 8,977 over the final four home games to reach the goal.
MSU's current accumulated attendance of 74,093 ranks fifth in the nation, third in the SEC.
Halfway through Schaefer's sixth season, the Bulldogs have claimed all of the top 10 and 18 of the top 20 crowds in program history during his tenure. Last year, State saw the nation's third-largest average attendance increase after being fourth the previous two seasons.
State returns from a two-game road trip to host South Carolina on Monday, Feb. 5, for the first advance sellout in program history. With the large crowd expected, Humphrey Coliseum doors will open two hours prior to the 6 p.m. tip.
Kentucky and Texas A&M visit the Hump on Feb. 11 and Feb. 18, respectively, and MSU's final home game of the regular season is against Auburn on Feb. 22.
The Feb. 18 contest against Texas A&M will tip at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
Mississippi State will host its next Hail State Hoops Luncheon Friday at 11:30 a.m.
