Boston Bound: Track and Field to Compete in Two Scored Meets This Weekend
February 01, 2018 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – As the calendar changes to February, the Mississippi State track and field program turns north to Boston for two meets this weekend.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Crimson Elite Meet hosted by Harvard on Friday before participating in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational on Boston University's campus on Saturday. Both will feature team scoring.
"Our sport is often very individual, but this weekend gives us a chance to compete as a team, similar to the SEC Championships," head coach Steve Dudley said. "This is a very competitive conference, so we need to be getting better each week. The trip to Boston will help identify those athletes that we expect to score for us at the SEC Championships and nationals."
Boston has been good for the Bulldogs in the past. Mississippi State's women won the Scarlet & White last year with 111 team points. The men finished fifth with 61 points. Together, they combined for the second-most points of all schools at the meet, trailing only Virginia.
MSU's women also claimed the team title at the Crimson Elite last year with 77 points, nearly a 30-point gap over second-place Jacksonville.
The men will face two ranked teams this weekend. No. 25 Syracuse will compete in both meets, while No. 18 Georgetown will be in attendance at the Scarlet and White. Mississippi State will be the only member of the Southeastern Conference, which boasts 12 teams ranked in the men's and women's Top 10, in Boston this weekend.
