MSU Improves In Day Two Of Schooner Behind Jones’ 68
September 24, 2017 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - Birdies filled up the scorecard of Mississippi State freshman Aubree Jones on Sunday as she fired a 68 to move into the Top 20 following second-round play at the Schooner Fall Classic.
Jones' stellar play on Sunday at Belmar Golf Club paced the Mississippi State women's golf team as it shaved eight strokes off its opening round with a 9-over 293. MSU heads into Monday's final round in 14th with a 594.
Jones put seven birdies on her scorecard, and she got started early with a birdie on her second hole en route to finishing her front nine at 1-under. She overcame a bogey on No. 1, the toughest hole of the round, to drain four more birdies and wrap a 3-under round.
Jones vaulted into a tie for 20th with a two-round total of 143 (+1).
"Today was a much better day all around," Jones said. "It was less frustrating, and the putter heated up and putts started falling. It felt great to come out and play better after a tough day Monday."
Monday's team leader, Athena Yang, notched a second-straight 73 to head into Monday tied for 38th.
Clara Moyano ended the day in a tie for 65th after firing her second consecutive 76.
