McCowan, Vivians Invited To U.S. U23 National Team Camp

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A pair of Bulldogs will get valuable international experience as Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians received invitations to attend the United States U23 National Team Training Camp.
The camp will be held July 31-Aug. 4 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 12-player team selected from the camp will represent the U.S. at the inaugural U23 Four Nations Tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
The duo earned the invitation after helping guide Mississippi State to program records for overall wins (34) and SEC victories (13) before capping the year with an appearance in the national title game in the program's first Final Four appearance.
McCowan received the invitation following a stellar sophomore season in which she ranked third on the team with 8.7 ppg and topped the Dawgs with 7.1 rpg and 1.5 bpg. McCowan earned State's first SEC Sixth Woman of the Year award after tallying 9.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in league contests.
The Brenham, Texas, native started all six of the Bulldogs' NCAA Tournament games, claiming Oklahoma City All-Region Team honors after tallying 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in State's victories against Washington and Baylor.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs, McCowan played on the United States' U18 squad that won the 2014 FIBA Americas Championship with a 5-0 record.
The U23 camp selection is the second invite for Vivians, as she participated in the 2015 USA Basketball World University and Pan-Am Games Trials following her rookie season with the Bulldogs.
Vivians' junior campaign saw her earn Associated Press Third Team All-American, WBCA All-Region Finalist and First Team All-SEC laurels after leading the Bulldogs with a 16.2 scoring average. The Carthage, Miss., native also paced State in league contests with a career-best 18.1 ppg.
She also moved up the MSU record books during the Bulldogs' historic Final Four run, ending the year fourth in both career scoring (1,754 points) and field goals made (628), and third in 3-pointers made (212).
Vivians, who had 35 double-figure scoring games and 11 with 20-plus points, was named to the All-Final Four Team after tallying 19 points in State's historic overtime upset of UConn and 12 in the championship game against South Carolina.
She was also named to the OKC All-Region Team after averaging 18.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the wins against Washington and Baylor. After tallying 13 points in the Sweet 16 victory against Washington, Vivians helped MSU punch its first ticket to the Final Four with a 24-point showing against the Bears in the Elite Eight.
