Thompson, Lott Named To Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Both Curtis Thompson and Leah Lott have accomplished many feats in the sport of track and field. Yet, these talented student-athletes still find time to give back to the community.
And for their efforts on Thursday, they were named to the 2017 SEC Community Service Team.
Curtis, the 2016 NCAA javelin champion who will be defending his crown next week in Eugene, Ore., accounted for a team-high 81 hours of community service. The all-American from New Jersey received the Volunteer Spirit Award from the Maroon Volunteer Center and during the holidays, he recorded 48 service hours with the Toys for Tots organization.
Lott, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., led the women's team with 50-plus hours of community service this past year.
She was presented the Volunteer Spirit Award from the Maroon Volunteer Center, played vital role at the MLK Jr. Unity Breakfast and Day of Service. In the classroom, Lott, who will be competing at the nationals in the long jump, also made the Bulldog Honor Roll and was a President's Scholar after posting 3.8 and 4.0 GPA's during the fall and spring, respectively.
"Not only are Curtis and Leah great athletics, they are great ambassadors for our university," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "They effort they put into community service and the passion they have speaks volumes to the type of people they both are."
