ATHENS, Ga. – Mississippi State senior Jessica Peng fired a 76 in second-round action at the NCAA Women's Golf Regional in Athens, Ga., on Tuesday.
"Two doubles cost us today. She played 16 fantastic holes, but unfortunately 18 count," Bulldogs coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We are going to attack the course tomorrow with a Bulldog spirit and in honor of Grace Shin, a golfer at the University of Central Oklahoma who is fighting Acute Leukemia, Gabe Valentine, who is fighting EB at home, and in memory of our former track and field student-athlete Kaelin Kersh. Hail State!"
Peng, who is Top 3 in program history in both season and career stroke average, started her day on No. 10 and proceeded to quickly move to 2-under-par with birdies on holes 12 and 13. After finishing her first nine holes at even par, she found the going tough on holes 1-4 before a birdie on the par-3 eighth helped her wrap the day with a 4-over 76.
The Taoyuan, Taiwan, native heads into Wednesday's final round tied for 56th with a 153.
The top six teams and the three-highest individual finishers not on advancing teams move on to the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Peng's third round begins from the 10th at 7:15 a.m. CT, with live stats available on www.golfstat.com.
