Peng Puts Together Strong Finish In NCAA Regional Opening Round

ATHENS, Ga. – Jessica Peng showed grit and determination Monday as the Mississippi State senior put together a strong finish to her opening round at the NCAA Women's Golf Regional in Athens, Ga.
Peng played the final four holes of the University of Georgia Golf Course at 1-under-par to wrap her opening round with a 5-over 77.
"Tough day today. Jessica's timing was slightly off, and with a tough course, that was troublesome for her," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "Her putting was slightly off as well, but she worked hard after the round and we look for great things tomorrow. In a national championship field, there is very little room for an off day, but she is an exceptional player and we will work hard to get ready for Tuesday."
The Taiwan native wrapped Monday in 54th place overall. Six teams and the top three individuals not on an advancing team move on to the May 19-24 NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Peng found the going tough on the front nine, making the turn at 4-over. She rallied back on the back nine, though, using a birdie on the 357-yard, par-4 17th to wrap her final nine holes at 1-over.
She begins her second round Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. CT, with live stats available on www.golfstat.com.
