Andrew Mahoney Named To 2017 SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Andrew Mahoney's work in the community has not gone unnoticed, as he was named to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Since the beginning of the fall 2016 semester, Mahoney has accumulated over 50 hours of service in numerous ways within the Mississippi State and Starkville community. His involvement is highlighted by his role as a mentor in the ACCESS Program, which helps promote the successful transition of students with intellectual disabilities into higher education. Through this program he worked with multiple MSU students on a regular basis in academic and social settings.
The Daphne, Alabama native was also awarded a Volunteer Spirit Award earlier in the spring by the Maroon Volunteer Center for his involvement around the campus and surrounding community, especially his work with the ACCESS program throughout the year. He was also named a Dean's Scholar for the fall 2016 semester and was a member of the Bulldog Honor Roll as a biological sciences major.
The junior pitcher has appeared in eight games this season, all in relief. He has thrown 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts.
Nathaniel Lowe represented the Bulldogs on the 2016 Community Service Team.
Mahoney and the rest of the Diamond Dawgs will take the field on Thursday for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch at Dudy Noble Field to open a three-game series with LSU.
