May 10, 2017 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State will spend Thanksgiving on the Yucatan Peninsula playing against some tough women's basketball competition as Triple Crown Sports unveiled the Bulldogs' schedule in the Nov. 23-25 Cancun Challenge.
Mississippi State, who won a school-record 34 games in 2016-17 and earned national finalist honors in its first Final Four appearance, will open play at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on Thanksgiving Day against Arizona State at 12:30 p.m. CT. The Sun Devils posted a 20-13 record this season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after finishing in the Pac-12.
The following day Vic Schaefer's squad meets Columbia in a 10 a.m. CT contest. The Lions wrapped 2016-17 with a 13-14 record.
State closes the tournament Sat., Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. CT against a Green Bay team that won the Horizon League championship and finished the year 27-6 after falling to Purdue in the opening round of the NCAA South Bend Regional.
Mississippi State will compete in the Mayan Division. The Riviera Division features Indiana State, Marquette, Montana, Oklahoma State, South Dakota and fellow SEC member Tennessee.
This will be State's third appearance in the event (2005, 2007).
Seating is limited for this exclusive event, and all fans should book land travel packages through Triple Crown Sports for admission into games in Mexico.
