Haley Reynolds smashed the school record in the discus with a toss of 49.88m
Wilson Victorious In Decathlon, Reynolds Breaks School Discus Record
April 14, 2017 | Track & Field
MOBILE, Ala. – On the second day of a split meet weekend, the Bulldogs grabbed two victories and shattered yet another program record while competing on opposite sides of the country.
Out in California, Haley Reynolds recorded a monster throw in the discus to pick up her first win of the season. Her mark of 49.88m obliterates the previous record of 49.18m set by Sasha-Gaye Marston back in 2015.
JaQuarius Wilson ran away in the decathlon after collecting 6,921 points, nearly 900 more than the next closest competitor. Wilson recorded the best score in four of the 10 events (Javelin, Discus, 110mH, Shot Put), finishing no worse than third in any event.
In the 1500m Invite, 2015 national champion Rhianwedd Price ran a time of 4:17.03 to take fourth collegiately. Her sister Ffion Price ran 4:21.03 and took eighth. Freshman Emma Tucker competed in the Open 1500m and grabbed 17th with a time of 4:34.58. Tiffany Flynn picked up a top five finish in the 100m hurdle, running 13.80 to finish third.
In the women's heptathlon, two Bulldogs finished inside the top five as Zaria Tillman grabbed third after collecting 4,699 points and Shayla Broughton scored 4,652 for fourth place.
Sophomore Gralyn Jones posted a personal best in the triple jump in Mobile, where he leapt 14.44m in a fourth place finish.
"I am really pleased with how many records we are continuing to break this season," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "We had a feeling Haley was going to be able to accomplish big things this season. You could just see that in her progression, and she has been having great practices all year. JaQuarius did really well today too, but what I am most excited about is the fact that we think there are still more points on the table for him if he continues to improve the way he has been. We look forward to getting back out tomorrow and hopefully breaking more records."
