National Player of the Week Honors Continue To Roll In For Brent Rooker

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following an incredible week at the plate, Mississippi State junior Brent Rooker continues to receive weekly honors as he has now been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Player of the Week and Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week.
This marks the second time this year that Rooker has received NCBWA National Player of the Week honors (Feb. 28).
On Monday, Rooker was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the second-straight week and third time this season, along with having received National Player of the Week recognition from Collegiate Baseball for the second time in 2017.
During his five-game week, Rooker hit .625 (10-for-16) with nine runs scored, one double, six home runs, 13 RBIs and five walks in addition to being hit by pitch three times. He notched 29 total bases for a 1.813 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage and helped lead the Bulldogs to a series win vs. No. 8 Kentucky.
On Wednesday against FIU, Rooker hit two home runs, including the walk-off winner in the 10th inning, and then followed it up on Saturday vs. No. 8 Kentucky with a three-home run game, making him the first Bulldog to accomplish the feat since 2010.
The Midseason All-American leads the SEC in batting average (.448), slugging percentage (1.008), on-base percentage (.548), hits (56), RBIs (56), doubles (19), home runs (15), total bases (126) and stolen bases (14). Rooker leads the nation in RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases, while ranking second in batting average, doubles, hits and home runs.
Rooker and the rest of the Bulldogs will close out a six-game homestand on Tuesday, April 11 for a 6:30 p.m. CT midweek vs. Mississippi Valley State.
