Bulldogs Paced By Peng Again In Second Round

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Jessica Peng is determined to make a statement in her final regular season tournament in the Maroon and White. The All-American led the Mississippi State women's golf team in the second round of the Clemson Invitational as the Bulldogs fired a 8-over 296 on Saturday.

MSU sits in 12th place, only a stroke behind 30th ranked Ohio State for eighth-place, with a two-day tally of 591.

Peng started slow but found a rhythm after draining back-to-back birdies before making the turn. She immediately heated up and notched quick birdies on 10 and 12, finishing the back nine, -2. She sits tied for 13th following a 1-over 73 on Saturday.

Athena Yang notched two consecutive birdies on the front nine propelling her to a 1-under, before making the turn to the back nine. She would go on to birdie 14, ending the day with a 73.

Senior Ji Eun Baik rallied in her final three holes of the day, with two birdies and a par, shooting a 73 on the day as well, shaving five strokes off her first round total.

"I always strive to finish string," Baik said. "I stuck to my fundamentals and did my routine just as I practiced. It paid off in the end."

Katie Holt was one stroke better than her Friday total, shooting a 78 on the day.

Freshman Teri Doss carded a 77 Saturday. Doss is currently only behind Peng on the squad, tied for 35th.

The Bulldogs are back in action for the final round of the Clemson Invitational Sunday at 8 a.m.
