HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Senior Jessica Peng returned to her team-leading role in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, firing a 2-over 73 to pace the Mississippi State women's golf team on a windy Saturday at the Long Cove Club.
The Bulldogs head into the final round of the event in 16th place after carding a 26-over 310 on Saturday. MSU's two-day total is 616.
Peng was steady, notching seven consecutive pars before birdying the par-3 17th. She played the par-3s at 1-under with another birdie at the second. Peng is at 8-over overall and in a tie for 47th place.
In her second collegiate tournament, freshman Ela Grimwood found her place shooting a 7-over 78 highlighted by birdies at the third and sixth. She started her day slow, bogeying her first hole, but she settled down after making the turn, posting a 1-over 37 on her final nine holes. Grimwood has played the par-5s at 3-under this week, which is tied for second-best in the tournament.
Athena Yang led the squad with four birdies Saturday as part of her 4-over 75. Yang climbed six spots to a tie for 53rd with a 10-over two-day total of 152. She dropped birdies on holes 12, 16, 2 and 6.
Ji Eun Baik and Katie Holt shot 84 and 85, respectively.
