Bulldogs Drop Hard-Fought Contest To No. 8 Alabama

STARKVILLE, Miss. – In the rubber match of the three game weekend series, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (22-7, 2-4 SEC) dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 8 Alabama (28-3, 5-1 SEC) by a final score of 3-0.
A total of 931 Bulldog fans were on hand Sunday afternoon, bolstering the weekend total to 2,946. That figure sets the Mississippi State softball record for largest SEC home opening weekend.
After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the Crimson Tide plated two runs in the second inning before adding another run in the fifth.
MSU threatened in the third and seventh inning behind the bat of Kat Moore, who went 3-for-4 and tied her career-high in hits. Amanda Ivy accounted for the other Bulldog hit, a double in the third frame.
Three pitchers combined to hold Alabama to six hits. Holly Ward started her second-consecutive game, going 1.2 innings before Cassady Knudsen came on in relief to get the Maroon and White out of a tight spot in the second inning. Alexis Silkwood finished the game from the circle, only giving up only one hit over 2.2 innings.

Friday's attendance of 959 and Saturday's total of 1,056 each landed in the Top 10 in Nusz Park history.
Moore With A Career Day At The Plate…
For the second time this season and in her career, Kat Moore delivered a three-hit game. The Bulldog sophomore went 3-for-4 at the plate, adding her sixth multi-hit game of the year. She tied her career high, set earlier this season against North Florida (Feb. 24).
