MSU Announces 2018, 2019 Home-and-Home Series with Southern Miss

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A 70-year in-state rivalry will see a new twist for the next two baseball seasons, as Mississippi State and Southern Miss will renew the rivalry to open the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
USM will host the Diamond Dawgs from Feb. 16-18, 2018 at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg to open the year, while MSU will welcome the Golden Eagles to Dudy Noble Field from Feb. 22-24, 2019.
The home-and-home series will mark the first time the Diamond Dawgs and Southern Miss have hosted each other in a three-game weekend series.
The 2018 trip to Hattiesburg will be the first time the Bulldogs have played at Pete Taylor Park since 2008, when MSU played a two-game midweek series. Southern Miss' last time in Starkville was 2007 for a two midweek battles. Since 2009, the teams have met on an annual basis in Pearl, Miss. at Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves—the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
The two sides have squared off a total of 116 times since the teams first met in 1947. MSU holds a 79-37 lead in the series.
In 2016, MSU won its seventh of the last eight meetings with USM, taking a 13-5 victory in Pearl. The Diamond Dawgs and Golden Eagles will play this season at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at Trustmark Park.
