MSU Heads To Southeastern Louisiana For Midweek Showdown

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to build on a seven-game winning streak, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (11-3) hit the road for their first midweek contest of 2017, taking on Southeastern Louisiana (8-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
First pitch from North Oak Park in Hammond, La., is set for 5 p.m. CT. SLU will provide live stats and will stream the contest through LionVision.
Tuesday's matchup will be the sixth in history between the two programs, with MSU holding a 5-0 advantage in the series. The two teams met last season on March 22, 2016 in Starkville, with the Bulldogs taking a 10-2 decision in six innings.
Sixth-year head coach Vann Stuedeman and the Bulldogs are riding a seven-game winning streak after sweeping play last weekend in the February Freezer. The Dogs took down North Florida and Southern Illinois twice and Eastern Illinois once to claim the title in their second home tournament of the year. Prior to that, MSU defeated Texas Tech and Florida Gulf Coast in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to begin its streak.
The Bulldog offense was led last weekend by the bats of Bevia Robinson and Emily Heimberger, who hit .647 and .462 on the weekend, respectively. Robinson also flashed her lightning-fast speed, going 4-for-5 on the basepaths.
State returns home on Thursday, March 2, closing out its midweek swing against Alabama State, with first pitch at 6 p.m. Following the midweek slate, the Maroon and White will welcome Samford, UMass and Central Arkansas to town for the Bulldog Slamboree (March 3-5), MSU's final non-conference home tournament of the season.

The Bulldogs captured the February Freezer Championship last weekend, going 5-0 in their second home tournament of the 2017 campaign. The weekend sweep featured four home runs and a number of dominant pitching performances. Highlighting those showings was Alexis Silkwood setting the MSU career strikeouts record (474) on Saturday against North Florida.
