Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach of the Week: Hunter Rogers
February 24, 2017 | Baseball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories. This week, our Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Hunter Rogers of Louisville.
When Hunter was just three years old, his parents, Thomas and Kerri, were given the news that their son had acute lymphatic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Hunter soon began chemotherapy under the care of his oncology team and nursing staff at the Children's Cancer Center, a part of Children's of Mississippi. After monitoring Hunter's response to chemotherapy, he was placed in the high-risk group, lengthening his course of treatment and making it more difficult.
In 2016, specialists discovered a large cyst on Hunter's brain. When Hunter finishes chemotherapy in May, a neurosurgeon will operate to remove the cyst.
Hunter loves to read every day. He also loves playing with his puppies and chickens and taking care of them.
