MSU’s Blair Schaefer Named To SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Blair Schaefer's dedication to serving the Starkville community has earned the Mississippi State junior guard a spot on the SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
It is the second-straight year Schaefer has been tabbed to the squad.
Since coming to Mississippi State, Schaefer has been very active in community service events, and she also serves as one the women's basketball SAAC representative and a member of the SEC Basketball Student-Athlete Leadership Council.
She has assisted the last two years with the T.K. Martin Fun Run, an event benefitting MSU's T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability. During the summer, she and her teammates judged the talent show for Camp Jigsaw, a camp at MSU for youth with autism.
The Starkville native has also served the past three years at Starkville's Travis Outlaw Day, and she has been a regular participant during her career at Bully's Book Blitz, an initiative where Bulldog student-athletes go to local schools to encourage students on the value of reading.
She has also been actively involved with Chick-fil-a Family Night and Starkville School District's Breakfast of Champions, a pair of events that encourage local youth to pursue healthy living and active lifestyles.
The 2016 SEC Community Service Team selection has also volunteered with the Special Olympics, the MSU M-Club's bottle water drive for those affected by the Louisiana floods and the Miss MSU's Colleges Against Cancer 5K.
In addition, she has also been part of the Starkville School District's Walk to School Day, Henderson Elementary's Perfect Attendance Party/Behavior Bash and Step Up For Kids.
Schaefer has been a standout in the classroom as well, earning SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades her first two seasons on campus.
In her third year on the court, she has helped the Bulldogs go 27-1 overall and 13-1 in SEC play while climbing to No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll. Schaefer has appeared in all 28 games, averaging 4.5 points and knocking down a team third-most 29 3-pointers.
She has also excelled on the defensive end, taking a team third-most 18 charges.
Schaefer and her second-ranked Bulldog teammates have the opportunity to clinch at least a share of the program's first SEC regular-season championship Thursday when they take on No. 22 Kentucky. Tip from Lexington is set for 6 p.m. CT online on SEC Network +.
