Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach of the Week: Abby Grace Butler
February 15, 2017 | Baseball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories. This week, our Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Abby Grace Butler of Mendenhall.
When Abby Grace was just 21 months old, she and her family were visiting relatives out of town when she became very sick with a high fever and febrile seizures. Abby Grace was quickly transferred to Batson Children's Hospital via ambulance. There, she received a diagnosis of high risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. With the care of the oncology team and other specialists at Children's of Mississippi, Abby Grace began chemotherapy. Her treatment path was met with some challenges, including seizures and two stroke-like events from the therapy.
Today, Abby Grace is in remission. She's an energetic 4 year old who loves to sing! She recently sang in front of her entire church congregation for the first time.
