November 09, 2017 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Dusty Smith inked Indiana standout Austin Vukovits and Alabama sensation Ford Clegg on Wednesday as part of his inaugural Mississippi State men's golf signing class.
Vukovits, an Indianapolis native, is the fourth-ranked golfer in Indiana, while Mountain Brook, Ala., native Clegg is ranked third in his home state.
"I am excited to announce the signing of Austin Vukovits and Ford Clegg," Smith said. "Both of these guys are high-character young men who will help us as we continue to build and grow the Mississippi State golf brand."
"Austin and Ford both have the mentality we are looking for in the young men that we want to add to this program year after year, and we are thrilled for them to part of the foundation of Mississippi State men's golf."
Austin Vukovits
Austin Vukovits of Cathedral High School in Indiana earned a No. 4 ranking in his state, and he was named to the Indiana High School All-State team twice and the Indianapolis High School All-City team three times. In April, Vukovits won the Justin Thomas Junior Championship and finished third at the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship, two of nine Top-25 finishes in AJGA tournaments. Vukovits has also competed in the USGA United States Junior Amateur twice.
"Austin is a very determined and driven individual, and we trust that his dedication will be contagious throughout our program," Smith said. "He has gotten better every year and will be an integral part of this program for many years to come."
Ford Clegg
Clegg earned his No. 3 state ranking after putting together a stellar 2017 that saw him win an individual and team 2017 7A state championship with Mountain Brook High School. Clegg was named to the 2017 Alabama All-State team, and he finished third at the 2017 Bubba Conlee Junior National.
"Ford is a tough, intelligent player who has always had the right mindset," Smith said. "He embodies exactly what we look for in the men we add to this family. He is going to be a tremendous asset to Mississippi State golf for the next four years."
