November 04, 2017 | Men's Tennis
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Singles titles will be on the line Sunday for two Mississippi State men's tennis players at the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, as No. 1 seed Nuno Borges and teammate Giovanni Oradini have advanced to the finals of the tournament's main draw and consolation draw, respectively.
"It was just another outstanding day for Nuno and Giovanni," MSU coach Matt Roberts said. "This tournament has been such a challenge and every one of our players have enjoyed the challenge and adversity they have faced. We have made great strides in our mental toughness this week and I'm excited to see one more tough day from the guys."
State's top-seeded Borges, ranked second nationally, moved into Sunday's main draw championship match with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 victory over fifth-seeded and 24th-ranked Martin Redlicki of UCLA in Saturday's semifinals.
The All-American and 2017 SEC Player of the Year will face third-seeded and third-ranked Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest in the title match Sunday at Noon CT.
In the singles consolation draw Saturday, the MSU sophomore Oradini registered his 10th victory versus a ranked opponent this fall by ousting 85th-ranked Tim Sandkaulen of rival Ole Miss 6-4, 6-3.
Oradini will battle for the consolation singles crown Sunday following the Borges-Chrysochos match, taking on Michigan's 51st-ranked Alex Knight.
