CABO SAN LUCAS , Miss. – After day one in Mexico the Mississippi State women's golf team sits tied for 10th place after firing a 12-over-296 at the Battle At The Beach in Cabo San Lucas at Club Campestre San Jose Golf course.
Freshman star Aubree Jones paced the Bulldogs Friday behind her fourth round below par of the season at 70.
Jones bogeyed her first hole of the day before going on to finish the back nine 1-over. After the turn, Jones drained birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 rounding out her back nine 2-under par, tying her third lowest round of the season. She sits tied for 8th overall.
After missing the first event of the season, Athena Yang has played consistent in every event since. Yang started the day very strong notching an even par on the first nine. She drained a birdie on her first hole and then again on her fifth and sixth holes ending the day 3-over 74 and in a tie for 36th.
Katie Holt, Kendall Wisenbaker and Clara Moyano all carded 76's in round one.
MSU is set to tee of the second round of the Battle At The Beach Saturday at 8:30 A.M.
