PENSACOLA, Fla. – Giovanni Oradini continued his stellar play at the USTA Pensacola Futures Monday, as he qualified for the tournament's main draw with another victory at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.
MSU's sophomore lefty picked up his fourth straight victory in the tournament by handily defeating Jamaica's Rowland Phillips (ATP 1476) 6-1, 6-1. In his qualifying run, Oradini has been impressive—taking all four of his matches in straight-set fashion.
Oradini will join Bulldog teammate and fourth-seeded Nuno Borges in the singles main draw that begins Tuesday. Borges is set to face a familiar foe in Tulane's Constantin Schmitz (ATP 1003) on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT. The All-American Borges has squared off against Schmitz three times in his career, holding a 3-0 record against the Germany native.
On Wednesday, Oradini will open up play in the main draw against Govind Nanda (ATP 1255) of the United States.
Next Up For MSU…
After returning from Pensacola, State will turn its attention to a challenging spring schedule, which opens on Jan. 14 at home against UAB.
