MSU Completes Day One Of Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After the first day of competition, the Mississippi State women's tennis program had one Bulldog advance to the finals of their respective draw in Anastasia Rentouli. The duo of Rentouli and Janina Braun also advanced to the semifinals in doubles.
"It was a solid day overall," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "I think the highlight of today would be winning all four of our third set 10-point tiebreakers. The quality of tennis was a little up and down at times, but winning close battles when we are not playing our best is important. We just need to keep learning from our losses and take a little confidence from our wins. This team loves to complete and I think they are all fired up about their final opportunities of the fall season tomorrow."
The second round of doubles will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the third round of doubles. After lunch, the event will conclude with the third round of singles.
MSU's Rentouli started the day by outlasting Tulane's Elena Muller 7-5, 6-7(6), 1-0(7) in the Heather Geros Draw. In the semifinals, Rentouli posted another three-set victory against Southern California's Becca Weissmann 7-6(5), 1-6, 1-0(8). On Saturday, she will face Alabama's Ann Selim for the championship crown.
Bulldogs Magda Adaloglou, Janina Braun and Sara Lizariturry dropped their first-round matches before posting wins in consolation action.
In the Myke Loomis Draw MSU's Adaloglou matches up with Ole Miss' Tea Jandric on Saturday. For the consolation finals in the Alexa Guarachi Draw, State's Braun will face Tulane's Ivone Alvaro. In the Susan Carver Draw, Lizariturry takes on Alabama State's Reka Szentes in the consolation finals.
Representing the Maroon & White in the Jim Tressler Draw, Caroline Kelly defeated South Florida's Marcela Ifju 6-1, 6-2 before falling to Memphis' Lina Hohnhold 7-5, 6-0. In the third-place match, she matches up with Tulane's Sofia Kurtz.
In the Erin Routliffe Doubles Draw, MSU's tandem of Braun and Rentouli made quick work of South Florida's Alexandra Mjos and Evelyne Tiron 6-2. The duo matches up with Tulane's Sade Atkinson and Christina Sisti on Saturday.
Also representing State in doubles, Adaloglou and Khrystyna Vozniak fell to Southern California's Angela Kulikov and Rianna Valdes 6-3 in the Linda Boedecker Doubles Draw. They will face Texas' Katie Poluta and Dani Wagland on Saturday in consolation action.
MSU's Kelly is pairing up with Clemson's Laura Marti in the Baili Camino Doubles Draw. The tandem advanced to the semifinals on a walkover and will face Lewis' Dora Andrejszki and Nora Mindiyarova on Saturday.
