October 16, 2017 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – SEC Media Day takes over Nashville on Thursday, and seniors Victoria Vivians and Morgan William will be representing the Mississippi State women's basketball team along with sixth-year head coach Vic Schaefer.
The Bulldogs begin their rotation at 1:40 p.m. CT, and prior to that, Schaefer and South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley will be the featured speakers for the Nashville Sports Council's Cooper Steel Speaker Series.
"I'm excited to go back to Nashville for SEC Media Day this year," Vivians said. "Last season was really huge for us, and we're working to make this season even better."
During Thursday's festivities, Vivians and William will participate in a Twitter chat hosted by Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press. MSU's three representatives are also scheduled to appear on The Paul Finebaum Show.
"I am looking forward to going to SEC Media Day," William said. "It's a crazy day with a lot of interviews, but it's an opportunity to have fun and talk about our team."
William and Vivians both helped Mississippi State to the best season in program history a year ago, as the Bulldogs claimed school-records with 34 overall wins and 13 SEC victories en route to finishing second in the conference and advancing to the national championship game in the program's first Final Four appearance.
Vivians led State in scoring at 16.2 ppg, earning Associated Press Third Team All-America honors to go with First Team All-SEC accolades and spots on the Oklahoma City All-Region Team and All-Final Four Team.
The Carthage, Miss., native, who was voted Mississippi State's Homecoming Queen for 2017, tallied a personal-best 18.1 scoring average in SEC games. Vivians enters her senior campaign with 1,754 career points, two back of Alexis Rack for third place in the MSU record books.
William followed Vivians in scoring last season, averaging 10.9 ppg as she earned AP All-America Honorable Mention accolades along with Second Team All-SEC honors.
The Birmingham, Ala., native was nominated for an ESPY and earned a spot on the All-Final Four Team after hitting the winning basket at the overtime buzzer against UConn in the national semifinal. That performance followed a 41-point effort against Baylor in the Elite Eight that helped land her Most Outstanding Player of the Oklahoma City Regional.
William set MSU's career (480) and single-season (181) assists record, and she enters her final campaign tops in program annals in free-throw percentage (84.3%).
