STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State legend and current NFL starting quarterback Dak Prescott was the recipient of the 2015-16 MSU M-Club's Leo W. Seal Jr. Athlete of the Year Award at the 2016 MSU Sports Hall of Fame banquet on Friday night.
The award recognizes the top MSU athlete for the 2015-16 athletic year and is named in honor of the late Leo Seal Jr., a former Bulldog player from 1947-48 and long-time supporter of MSU Athletics. It's the second time Prescott has claimed the honor. He was the inaugural recipient after a dazzling 2014 season.
Prescott was recognized on a night that inducted the 2016 MSU Hall of Fame Class: two-time first-team softball All-American Chelsea Bramlett-Malone, basketball All-American Greg Carter, football All-Southeastern Conference quarterback Wayne Madkin, longtime equipment manager Phil Silva and women's basketball Kodak All-American Tan White. The class will be honored on the field during the Bulldogs' game against South Carolina Saturday night.
Prescott shattered 38 school records during his career, and he is one of only four players in FBS history to throw for at least 70 touchdowns and rush for at least 40 touchdowns. He accounted for 114 career touchdowns, which is fourth in SEC history.
Off the field, he earned both his undergraduate and master's degrees and captured the 2015 Senior CLASS Award. Prescott was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and will start at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
