Friday Night Clash Set For MSU And Alabama
September 29, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With only four home dates left, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-6-0, 0-4 SEC) welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide (7-3-1, 2-1-1 SEC) to the MSU Soccer Field for a Friday night showdown at 7 p.m. CT.
"We've had a great week of preparation and we're ready to hit the field this Friday against Alabama," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "After last Sunday's performance I am confident of us being able to play the way I know we're capable of. It's going to be a great matchup and the stands will be packed, so we are excited for tomorrow night."
Last Time Out
Despite scoring in the 37th minute of last Sunday contest against Missouri, the Bulldogs could not hold off the Tigers on the road as MSU fell in overtime off a game-winning header in the 98th minute. Sophomore Jen Huckaby recorded her first collegiate goal during the game, as she chipped in a shot for the Bulldogs' lone score.
Scouting Alabama
The Crimson Tide has turned in a 7-3-1 record on the season, while earning a 2-1-1 mark in conference play. Despite jumping out to a 6-1-0 start, Bama has only won once in its last four tries. Sophomore Abbie Boswell has collected 18 points this season, ranking 25th in the nation and fourth in the SEC for that category. The Woodridge. Ill., native has produced a fourth of Bama's scoring this season after earning six goals to lead the team.
Keys For MSU
Four of State's five wins this season have come when the Bulldogs score two or more goals. The Bulldogs have not scored more than one goal since the win against Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 11, as State has gone 0-3 during that time span. MSU currently has a three-way tie for the lead in goals, as Mallory Eubanks, MaKayla Waldner and Kennadi Carbin all have two apiece.
