NORMAN, Okla. – After playing 36 holes in Saturday's opening day, the Mississippi State women's golf team completed its season-opening tournament Sunday with an 894 three-round total.
The Bulldogs fired a 298 (+14) to complete the Schooner Fall Classic.
Veteran Ji Eun Baik helped Mississippi State get off to a nice start, shooting 2-under on her first nine holes. She went on to card a 71 on the day, five strokes better than Saturday's second round.
Her solid final round helped her finish tied for 43rd with a 225.
"I had a totally different body language and attitude about golf today compared to yesterday," Baik said. "No matter how poorly I executed a shot, I was able to move forward and forget. I'm disappointed in the way that we finished, but I still do believe that we are a championship team. We will continue to get better and work hard."
Senior Chieh Jessica Peng paced MSU with a 30th-place finish (220) after firing a 75 on Sunday.
Freshman Athena Yang had a strong start on Sunday, going 1-under in her first four holes. She matched her second round with a 3-over 74 to finish her first collegiate event as MSU's second-lowest scorer with a 223 for 39th position.
Katie Holt and Teri Doss each carded a 78 on Sunday. Holt tied for 47th with a 226, while Doss wrapped her debut event 58th with a 235.
Playing as an individual, senior Izel Pieters was sensational Sunday, shooting an even-par 71 to finish the season-opener 43rd with a 225.
Mississippi State finished play at Belmar Golf Club 12th with an 894. Florida State won the team title, with the Seminoles' Morgane Metraux taking medalist honors.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 2-4 at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
