Hunter Caps Run At Southern Intercollegiate With Semifinal Finish

ATHENS, Ga. – After turning in an impressive 4-1 singles record at the Southern Intercollegiate, senior Vaughn Hunter concluded play in the Division II singles draw with a semifinal appearance on Sunday.
"We put in great work at the Southern Intercollegiate this weekend," head coach Matt Roberts said. "We had the opportunity to play a lot of matches and win as well, which is good for our experience and confidence. I want to see Vaughn and Trevor take what they've learned this past weekend and implement it into their games going forward."
Hunter, who improved his record to 6-2 over the last two seasons at the Southern Intercollegiate, began his singles day by rallying to beat Louisville's George Hedley, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The senior followed up his win in the quarterfinals with a hard-fought match against Johannes Ingildsen of Florida, but fell 7-6, 6-4 in the semifinal round.
In doubles play, the duo of Hunter and Trevor Foshey were ousted by host Georgia's Will Montgomery and Robert Loeb, 6-1, in round of 16 action.
Up Next
Following the Southern Intercollegiate, the Bulldogs will compete in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Six Bulldogs will compete at the event, with pre-qualifying play beginning on Oct. 1 while the main draw runs Oct. 6-10.
