September 22, 2016 | Football
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- For the first time in 30 years, Mississippi State makes a pilgrimage to the Northeast to play a college football game as the Bulldogs face UMass at 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET Saturday from Gillette Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots. The date was Sept. 6, 1986 and head coach Rockey Felker, in his first game, used a second-half defensive shutout and the speed of Don Smith to beat Syracuse, 24-17, in the Carrier Dome. It was the Bulldogs' last game in the Northeast and Saturday several thousand Bulldog fans will invade New England for the non-conference tilt.
