Women's Hoops Unveils 2016-17 SEC, TV Schedules
September 20, 2016 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State women's basketball will play 12 games on the ESPN family of networks this season, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
State will play nine contests on the SEC Network, beginning with the home opener against Texas on Nov. 20.
Mississippi State will have one other non-conference contest televised, as Fox Sports Net will show the Dec. 3 SEC/Big 12 Challenge contest at Iowa State.
"We certainly are excited to have the opportunity to play on national TV 11 times in the conference season on ESPN2, ESPNU and the SEC Network," fifth-year coach Vic Schaefer said. "When you add in our non-conference SEC Network game against Texas, it is certainly exciting, but also a bear of a schedule. This schedule will really challenge this team, but I think at this stage of our program we are ready for it. I believe our team will be excited to accept the challenge of playing this schedule."
MSU opens the SEC slate at home on Jan. 1, taking on LSU at 2 p.m. on the SEC Network.
The Bulldogs then open the road slate with back-to-back contests at Arkansas and Tennessee.
Tennessee is one of three opponents the Bulldogs face twice this season. The rematch with the Lady Vols comes in the Feb. 26 regular-season finale, a game shown on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Mississippi State also faces rival Ole Miss and Texas A&M twice, with all four being broadcast on the SEC Network. The Bulldogs and Rebels meet in Starkville on Mon., Jan. 16, then in Oxford on Feb. 12.
MSU hosts Texas A&M Jan. 29, and makes the return trip to College Station Feb. 19.
The Bulldogs' home meeting against Ole Miss is the second of back-to-back contests at the Hump for MSU, as it welcomes Florida to Starkville on Jan. 12 for an SEC Network contest.
Following the Monday game against the Rebels, State ventures to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 19 to face Alabama.
Schaefer's squad stays on the road Jan. 23, heading to Columbia, S.C., for a Big Monday showdown against South Carolina on ESPN2.
After hosting Texas A&M on Jan. 29, the Bulldogs begin February with an SEC Network contest at Auburn (Feb. 2).
State then returns home to face Missouri Feb. 5 on ESPNU and Vanderbilt Feb. 9 on the SEC Network.
After the season's second matchup against Ole Miss, MSU welcomes Georgia to Starkville on Feb. 16.
Following road trips to Texas A&M and Kentucky (Feb. 23), Mississippi State wraps the regular season with the Feb. 26 rematch against Tennessee.
