Binge watching Netflix, tanning by the pool, sleeping the day away, such activities are the normal pastimes for most college students during their summer break. However, this is not the case for Lexington, Ky., native Mallory Eubanks. Eubanks spent her summer showcasing her famous playing talent on the international stage.
Â
Eubanks was one of 11 college players selected, and the only member on the roster from the SEC, to play for the U.S. U-19 Women's National Team this summer against the New Zealand National Team for three friendlies.
Â
The friendlies resulted in two wins and a draw for the U.S. U-19 team.
Â
International play is not unchartered territory for Eubanks. She played for the U.S. U-20 team during the summer before her freshman year of college. Also, Eubanks played soccer in Geneva, Switzerland for two years in high school under Pierre Quilez at College du Leman and led her team to the 2011 Tournoi Scolaire championship.
Â
During her time in Switzerland, Eubanks had to step up her game speed and skills because she often played against the boys' teams due to the fact that there were not many girls' teams for her age group.
Â
Eubanks contributes her international background and the skills she has gained as a Bulldog to her success in New Zealand.
Â
"My previous knowledge helped me with the speed of the game and the technical ability players have in the international level," Eubanks said.
Â
New skills and a great experience are not the only things that Eubanks brings back with her from this summer. She still keeps in touch with many of her U-19 team members and now has friendships that span the country. She credits her new friends with teaching her the most important lesson from her time on the team.
Â
"I took away from the other players I met to always appreciate the game and to have fun no matter what," Eubanks said.
Â
Eubanks said that her time playing overseas rejuvenated her passion for the game, and she is excited to bring that passion, and her increased skills, back with her as she begins her junior campaign with the Maroon and White.
Â
"You never know how many games you have left, and I just want to play with passion and confidence," Eubanks said. "I want to use everything I learned over the summer to help me improve ever more this season."
Â
Eubanks had the summer of a lifetime, and she looks forward to the great season to come for the Mississippi State soccer program. She has set high goals for herself and has great hopes for her team the season. There is more to come from Mallory Eubanks in the near future, and this is just the beginning.
Â
Eubanks, who majors in kinesiology, scored a 4.0 in the classroom last year to lead MSU to one of its best GPAs in the past decade. The Aaron Gordon coached squad netted a 3.35 team GPA last spring, with 17 members of the team earning Bulldog Honor Roll distinctions. Â
Â
Up Next:
The Maroon and White will kick off its two-game road swing against Ole Miss on Thursday, Sept. 22 as the Bulldogs take on the Rebels for the first time since 2014. Thursday's battle will be televised on SEC Network at 6 p.m. CT.
