Men’s Golf Announces 2016-17 Schedule

STARKVILLE, Miss – Mississippi State men's golf will host the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship for the fifth-straight year as part of a challenging 2016-17 slate that was unveiled Wednesday.
"Our goal was to put together a very competitive schedule on some of the top courses in the country," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "We will have the opportunity to play from coast to coast on a variety of different grasses, courses and conditions."
MSU has started every season since 2009 in Hattiesburg, and 2016 is no different as the Bulldogs tee off the campaign at the Southern Miss-hosted Sam Hall Intercollegiate Sept. 12- 13.
State's lone new tournament comes Sept. 26-27 when it ventures to the Cincinnati Intercollegiate at Coldstream Country Club.
The Bulldogs open October by playing in the Alabama-hosted Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate (Oct. 3-4), one of three trips to the state this season for MSU.
After finishing third at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate in 2015, State looks for another strong finish when it returns to Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.V., October 10-11.
The Maroon & White rounds out the fall slate in Vero Beach, Fla., taking part in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational Oct. 24-25.
"We will play in eight different states against many of the best team and conferences in the nation," Homan said.
After nearly four months off, the Bulldogs open the spring slate with their ninth appearance at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate (Feb. 20-21).
A week later, MSU ventures cross country for the second-straight year to play in the Southwestern Intercollegiate at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
The Bulldogs head back to Alabama March 5-7 to compete in the Auburn-hosted Tiger Invitational for the fifth-straight campaign.
After heading to Texas for the Lone Star Invitational March 20-21, Mississippi State returns to its home course to continue a tradition unlike any other with the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship April 3-4.
State's final home event serves as the team's final tune-up before the heading to Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga., for the April 21-24 SEC Championship.
NCAA regional play will be held at various locations May 15-17, and Sugar Grove, Ill., will host this year's NCAA Championship May 25-27.
