Mallory Eubanks Q&A
Q: Why did you come to Mississippi State?
A: "Both of my parents went to Mississippi State, so I have been a MSU fan for a very long time. Even though we lived in Kentucky, we used to travel down to Starkville for football games on Saturdays and watch the soccer games on Sundays before we would head home. My entire family would come, even the ones that were not State Alumni, so it was pretty fun. I really liked the university, and that is where it all started."
Q: Growing up a fan, how did it feel to come here and play?
A: "When I was young, it was my number one goal. We used to come down here to watch the soccer games. Back when we would visit there were no stands, so we would sit on the hill to watch the games. I used to tell my mom that I would be playing on that field one day. I've always wanted to come here, and it's a childhood dream come true."
Q: How did you attract the attention of the coaching staff here at MSU?
A: "After numerous emails, Coach Aaron came down to watch me play in a club tournament game. It was really cool how it all worked out, because right as he walked up I scored a goal. He emailed me soon after and I was super excited. That was the first SEC school to show interest in me and it was Mississippi State of all places. My parents and I were very excited."
Q: When living in Switzerland you played on a boy's soccer team, how was that experience?
A: "There were more preconceived notions, especially being an American girl. It was fun though and different. However, I preferred playing on the girl's team. Over there, even when you are on a girl's team, you still play against the guys. The girls play more physically than the guys, but the guys are faster. It is a very different atmosphere because over here the guys play more physically. In Europe, it is less contact and more technical and about quickness and speed. That probably helped me a lot in the long run."
Q: What are the best qualities of your teammates?
A: "Everyone is really positive and our personalities match up very well. I think that has helped our program a lot. It is a standard on our team to be happy and positive. We are like a family; everyone cares about one another. If we get mad at one another, it's because we care."
Q: What advice would you give to younger players coming into the sport?
A: "Enjoy it while it lasts. I feel like as you get older, you realize that you are not going to be playing soccer forever. When you are younger, it seems so far off. If I could give any young soccer player advice, I would say to enjoy it while you can. Don't take for granted the moments you have to play. "
