May 29, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Postseason baseball is back at Dudy Noble Field.
For the 13th time in program history, the NCAA has selected Mississippi State as a host of an NCAA Baseball Championship Regional, the selection committee announced tonight.
The regional is set to begin Friday, June 3, with a pair of opening round games. Saturday and Sunday will also feature two games each, with an if-necessary game to be played on Monday. All times will be decided during tomorrow's NCAA Selection Show, where participating teams, as well as seeding, will announced tomorrow at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
Fans can purchase All-Tournament General Admission Books for $50 by going to www.hailstate.com/tickets. The Mississippi State ticket office will re-open Tuesday morning for phone orders. Information on single-game tickets will be released later this week.
The 2016 SEC Champions hold a 41-16-1 record going into the NCAA Tournament as one of 16 regional hosts. The Bulldogs' school-record 21-9 SEC mark helped them claim their first conference title since 1989 and 11th in program history. Led by SEC Coach of the Year John Cohen and SEC Freshman of the Year Jake Mangum, the Bulldogs won nine of their 10 conference series, joining Texas A&M as the only two SEC squads to do so.
State finished the regular season on a strong note, sweeping their last three series and winning 10-straight SEC contests, the most since 14-straight in 1989. Along with Cohen and Mangum laurels, five Bulldogs earned All-SEC honors, marking the most since 1989.
"To be chosen to host amongst a great field of participants is a huge honor. It's also a tremendous responsibility for our athletic department and its something I think we've done very well in the past," Cohen said. "We look forward to this opportunity and to seeing all of our great fans at the Carnegie Hall of College Baseball this weekend."
Mississippi State has previously hosted 12 NCAA Baseball Regionals, with the last coming during State's historic 2013 season, where the Bulldogs reached the College World Series Finals. Dudy Noble Field also played home to Mississippi State's 2007 NCAA Super Regional victory against Clemson. The Bulldogs have advanced seven of the 13 times when hosting postseason rounds.
