The right-hander from Independence, Miss., signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Indians Friday and was expected to report Monday to the American League team's training camp in Winter Haven, Fla.
Cleveland posted a 1-1 record and a 4.38 earned run average in 22 mound appearances in 2006 while leading the Bulldogs with five saves. He pitched in 70 games over four seasons, concluding his Mississippi State career with a 5-2 record, a 3.46 ERA and 11 saves, 10th-most at MSU. Cleveland's 69 career relief appearances is the seventh-most at Mississippi State.
Earlier this month, All-SEC and All-American shortstop Thomas Berkery of Sarasota, Fla., signed with Texas. The Rangers drafted Berkery following the 2005 season and signed him prior to the 2006 draft. Two MSU seniors selected in Major League baseball's 2006 First-Year Player draft, pitcher Brooks Dunn (San Diego, 23rd round) of Birmingham, Ala., and outfielder Joseph Hunter (Chicago White Sox, 25th round) of Germantown, Tenn., have also signed professional baseball contracts.
