MSU Helps SEC Meet "Pack The Parks" Baseball Attendance Campaign Goal
May 25, 2016 | Baseball
The MSU-Georgia series drew 29,915 fans to Dudy Noble Field on Super Bulldog Weekend, including a paid Saturday crowd of 13,617, the largest home attendance in the Southeastern Conference this year and the fourth-largest gate ever for a Mississippi State home game.
State drew 193,703 and averaged 6,917 paying customers for 28 home dates in 2006, ranking third in the Southeastern Conference behind SEC West rivals LSU and Arkansas. It helped the Southeastern Conference surpass its Pack the Parks baseball attendance promotional campaign goal --- 1.5 million fans at the 12 SEC ballparks during the 2006 season. The campaign eclipsed the mark last weekend during NCAA regional competition hosted at five SEC schools, raising the home paid attendance total in the SEC to 1,563,079, more than double that of the next closest conference.
"We are certainly pleased to achieve such a goal," SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said. "The SEC has always been the leader in collegiate baseball and this is certainly an accomplishment everyone associated with SEC baseball can be proud of. This sets the bar extremely high."
The SEC has drawn over one million in paid attendance for five straight seasons. No other conference has ever drawn a million or more fans to its baseball stadiums during a single season.
Last season, the SEC drew 1,490,005 fans to its ballparks, an increase of over 163,000 from the 2004 season. The SEC reached the one-million mark in 2006 in early April, a full week earlier than it had ever reached that figure. The SEC's baseball attendance in 2005 was over 600,000 that of the next closest conference, the Big 12, who totaled 844,000 a year ago. Three of the top five and eight of the top 25 schools in NCAA baseball attendance in 2005 were SEC schools.
