
Thomas Berkery One Of Three Finalists For 2006 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy

Joining Berkery at the award's ceremony are the other two finalists,Southern Mississippi junior outfielder Toddric Johnson and MississippiValley State shortstop Zach Penprase.
Berkery, also a candidate for the 2006 Dick Howser Trophy, leads theSoutheastern Conference in hitting with a .383 batting average. He rankssecond in the league with a .468 on-base percentage and sixth with 74 hits.Berkery set a school record earlier this season with a 30-game hittingstreak, the fifth-longest hitting streak in SEC history.
All three finalists will be present for the awards presentation, includingformer Mississippi State and Boston Red Sox standout Dave "Boo" Ferriss, forwhom the award is named. Another former MSU and Major League pitchingstandout, current ESPN baseball an Jeff Brantley, will co-host the awardpresentation, which will be televised live statewide by Mississippi PublicBroadcasting.
MSU junior second baseman Jeffrey Rea was among 12 other Mississippicollegians to receiving votes for this year's award.
Mississippi State outfielder Brad Corley was a finalist for the inauguralFerriss Trophy in 2004.
