Doolittle, from Meridian, Miss., registered a career-high 13 strikeouts andlimited South Carolina to one earned run on five hits and two walks inMississippi State¹s 6-2 win over South Carolina. It was the second-longestpitching performance of the year for the Bulldog right-hander, who earlierthis season tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout at Georgia.
Doolittle and six other Bulldog pitchers combined for a 1.25 earned runaverage in four games as Mississippi State swept past LSU, South Carolina,Tennessee and Mississippi for the 2005 SEC Baseball Tournament Championship.It was the sixth conference tournament title and first since 2001 forMississippi State.
Mississippi State continues postseason play this week in the NCAA MiamiRegional in Coral Gables, Fla. MSU opens against Florida Atlantic Friday at2 p.m. (CDT) and then faces either host Miami or Virginia Commonwealth inthe tournament's Saturday competition.
