Former Bulldog Jon Knott Called Up By Padres

The rain was coming down hard.
Although the club had two promotions going -- Thirsty Thursday and Ugly Sweater Night -- Cain was prepared to give the Beavers and Omaha Royals a rare night off.
"Then I went outside and noticed the rain had stopped," Cain said.
So they played in front of 2,467 fans, and Omaha took a 4-0 victory over a Beavers' team that committed three more errors. That makes it 21 errors in the last eight games, but pitching was Portland's main concern. No wonder Portland manager Craig Colbert would have preferred a washout.
"Three spot starts in a row. Our bullpen down to nothing. It would have been nice," Colbert admitted.
The other news for Portland was the call-up of red-hot hitter Jon Knott to the parent San Diego Padres. Knott, who walked on at Mississippi State and went undrafted twice, has developed into one of the top right-handed power hitters in the Pacific Coast League. He was hitting .308 with 13 homers and a league-leading 47 RBIs.
"He'll join them in Milwaukee tomorrow," Colbert said. "He was really excited. It's great to see somebody work his way through the minors like that. Good things happen to people who work hard and Jon has."
Since May 12, the Beavers have lost Brandon Puffer, Justin Germano, Dennis Tankersley and Brian Sweeney to the Padres. Outfielder Henri Stanley was traded to Boston and infielder Ben Petrick retired.
