BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Freshman Jon Crosby one-hit Birmingham-Southern over 6-1/3 innings and Brad Corley launched his 14th and 15th home runs of the season Wednesday night leading Mississippi State (28-15) to a 7-1 win over the Panthers (32-11).
All seven Bulldog runs came off home runs. Corley launched solo shots off BSC starter Mac Godwin (5-2) in the first and fifth innings for a 2-0 MSU lead. Thomas Berkery hit a two-run shot in the sixth to advance the lead to 4-0, and Craid Tatum cracked his seventh home run of the year, a three-run shot in the ninth.
Crosby, making his first career start, took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up a one-out single to Connor Robinson. The Germantown, Tenn., product struck out six and walked two during a season-longest pitching stint.
Brett Cleveland then came on to finish the game, striking out three and allowing a run on three hits.
BSC, coached by former MSU assistant Brian Shoop, broke up the shutout in the eighth inning. Jonathan Samford drew a lead-off walk and later scored on a bunt single by Matt Bogue.
All nine Bulldog starters hit safely, with Jeffrey Rea, Corley, Tatum and Berkery registering multi-hit games.
Mississippi State returns to SEC competition and continues its eight-game road run this weekend with a three-game series at Venderbilt.
