For his performance Corley has been accorded conference and national player of the week honors by the Southeastern Conference and Tucson-based Collegiate Baseball magazine. The Bulldogs won four of their five games last week, including a sweep of a two-game series at No. 11 Southern Miss.
During last week's five-game road run, Corley (.341) smacked six home runs and drove in 11 runs, compiling a .478 batting average and a 1.304 slugging percentage over the span.
He belted his fifth home run of the year and drove in five runs to help MSU record its first two-game series sweep at Southern Miss since 1991.
But the Louisville, Ky., native turned in his most impressive showing in the Kentucky series, where six of his eight hits against the Wildcats went for extra-bases and five flew out of Cliff Hagan Stadium. He finished the weekend with a 1.846 slugging percentage.
Corley has belted eight of his team-leading and career-high 10 home runs in the past seven games, including back-to-back two-home run games in wins at Kentucky. His third home run of the weekend was a game-tying ninth inning solo blast that sparked State to a 10-8 comeback win at UK. HR No. 4 gave MSU a 1-0 lead in Sunday's series-clinching 12-3 finale.
The Bulldog outfielder is the first Mississippi State player to earn SEC Player of the Week honors since first baseman Matthew Brinson in 2002. MSU pitcher Alan Johnson was accorded SEC Pitcher of the Week honors a school-record three times last year.
Mississippi State (21-11) concludes its current six-game road run Tuesday night in Jackson, Miss., taking on Mississippi in the 25th annual Mayor's Trophy Game. First pitch at Smith-Wills Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
