MSU Track Signs Hoover High Duo Moore And Oliver

The duo starred on the cross country and track teams at Hoover High School in Birmingham, Ala. The cross country team, anchored by Moore and Oliver, has won the state 6A title the past four seasons. The team has also taken the indoor track championships the past two years.
Moore has seen his most success in cross country, where he has won back-to-back individual championships at the state meet. His best time in a 5k cross country race is 15:55. He also has run the 800m at 1:54 and the 1600m at 4:20.
Oliver is a 13-time, all-state runner who won the 2002 state championship in the 3200-meter run. Oliver also took home the indoor 1600m state title this spring.
"These two are great athletes and great students from a terrific program," MSU head coach Al Schmidt said. "These two are a great addition to our cross country and track programs."
Oliver has been named the scholar athlete of the week before and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the French national honor society. He scored a 30 on the ACT.
Moore is an all-state track performer 11 times. He has also named the scholar athlete of the week at Hoover.
Jamie Oliver is the son of Bryan and Kathy Oliver. Philip Moore is the son of Kelley and Joseph Moore.
