Bulldog Netter Ruiz Named To Verizon National Academic Squad Once Again

A native from Colmar, France, Ruiz earned his second straight appointment to the national academic team as a member of the country's third team. He also received third-team honors in 2001. A student in international business (where he holds a very impressive 3.97 overall grade point average), he is also an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete and three-time Academic all-SEC honoree.
MSU's lone senior in this year, Ruiz was also State's nominee for the SEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was one of the three finalists for the award, which is annually presented to the top male scholar for all sports at all 12 SEC institutions.
Ruiz helped lead State to its 12th consecutive NCAA Team Championship appearance this season. After missing a month of play late in the year with a back injury, he underwent surgery to repair the problem. He would return to action for the Bulldogs in the SEC and NCAA Championships, providing a victory in State's first-round NCAA win over South Alabama. He ended his MSU career with over 75 total victories.
"I feel like I'm getting repetitive, but once again we are very proud of David," MSU head coach Sylvain Guichard said. "His honors just continue to grow and he is very deserving of all of them. He has just been a model student-athlete during his career and we will miss him in the future."
