Ambert/Combette Eliminated From NCAA Doubles Championship
May 25, 2016 | Men's Tennis
The loss officially marked the end of the 2001-02 MSU men's tennis season, which saw the Bulldogs, guided by first-year head coach Sylvain Guichard, return to the NCAA Championship as a team for the 12th year in a row. State is one of only nine teams in the country which can claim that distinction.
State's year was also highlighted by Ambert's play in singles, which saw him go 37-11 in singles and become MSU's 17th men's tennis all-American. He was also named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Player to Watch.
"While we certainly thought we could have achieved more, we felt we had some good things happen this season," Guichard said. "We are excited about taking those things and building for next year."
MSU will return all but one player, senior David Ruiz, from this year's squad in 2002-03.
