Ambert Falls In NCAA Singles Championship; To Play Doubles With Combette Thursday

The loss ended an otherwise remarkable season for the Toulouse, France, product. Ambert concluded the year 37-11 overall in singles, making him only the third Bulldog in the modern era to notch 37 or more wins in a single season. An all-American and first-team, all-SEC selection in singles, Ambert was also 18-4 in dual matches this season at the No. 1 position, leading State's team back to the NCAA Championship for the 12th straight year. He posted 25 wins against players in the current top 100 during the season. Ten of those victories were against top 25 foes, four against top 10 competitors. In addition, of Ambert's 11 losses this year, all 11 were against top 100 foes, seven of them in the top 25.
Ambert will now team with partner Ren?©-Charles Combette to compete in the 32-team NCAA Doubles Championship, which begins here Thursday afternoon. The 30th-ranked State tandem, 21-9 overall this year, will take on 15th-ranked Lester Cook and Ryan Newport of host Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. CT.
