STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Greg Martin's Mississippi State men's golf squad will open play at the Southeastern Conference Championships Friday morning. The Bulldogs will join eleven other members of the SEC in the three-day event, which will be held at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simon's Island, Ga., for the second consecutive year.
State has finished in the top-seven in each of its last three tournaments, including a fourth-place showing in its last event, at the Auburn-hosted Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate. Codie Mudd, a junior from Louisville, Kent., leads Mississippi State with a 72.82 stroke average through ten tournaments.
Last year saw the Bulldogs struggle to an eleventh-place finish after carding a 910 score. Prior to last season, State had finished in the event's top-four in five-straight years, including two-straight championship seasons in 1996 and 1997.
The SEC Championships will consist of three 18-hole rounds, which will be played Friday-Sunday.
