Bulldog Netters Baron, Ruiz Named to Verizon District Academic Squad

Baron, a senior on State's men's tennis team, was selected to the district's first team. A native of Nantes, France, he holds a 3.89 grade point average in international business. He was named Academic all-America last season and is a three-time Academic all-SEC selection.
The two-time, all-American, the top seed in this weekend's NCAA Singles Championship, is currently ranked second nationally in singles and 21st in doubles with partner Chris McDonald.
Ruiz, a junior from Colmar, France, earns his first appointment to the district's first team. A 4.00 student in banking & finance, he is a two-time Academic all-SEC honoree. He was 20-10 overall in singles this year and notched the second-most dual match victories on the MSU team, behind only Baron.
As first-team selections in the district, Baron and Ruiz will be placed on the ballot for the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be released this summer. Baron was a second-team honoree on the national squad last season.
In addition to their academic successes, Baron and Ruiz helped lead State to the NCAA Championship's round of 16 this year, the team's 10th trip to the "Sweet Sixteen" in the last 11 years.
