
Bougard Crowned SEC Heptathlon Champion Second Year In A Row

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Erica Bougard has done it again. The multi event senior was crowned the SEC Heptathlon Champion for back-to-back years after capturing the overall title Friday.
Bougard entered day two of the heptathlon in first and maintained her No. 1 position throughout the event. She started the day jumping 20-000.50 in the long jump and throwing 122-02 in the javelin. The senior claimed her victory with the fastest time, 2:14.67, in the 800m run giving her a total of 6,170 points.
“It actually feels great," Bougard said. "It's a back-to-back win for me. I still hold the record for the [SEC] heptathlon, which is exciting. It feels great to get the win.”
This was Bougard's first heptathlon of the season and she holds the nation's second-best point total in the event this season. Bougard is also the first SEC champion repeater in the heptathlon since GiGi Miller of Arkansas in 2000 and 2001.
After the completion of the heptathlon, Bougard went on to qualify for the 100m hurdles finals with a time of 13.28 winning her heat. The finals will be held on Saturday at 3:40 p.m.
In the last event of the night for the Maroon and White was Cornelia Griesche and Antonia Hehr in the 3000m steeplechase. Griesche finished second in the event for the second year in a row with a school record time of 9:51.66. Not far behind was Hehr who finished fifth running a personal-best time of 10:06.06. Hehr's time is the freshman record in the event.
Curtis Thompson became the first athlete to score on the men's side after finishing third in the javelin. Thompson threw 235-07 in the javelin finals to record the third-place finish. Last season, Thompson finished fourth in the event.
Running a personal-best 45.75, senior Alfred Larry qualified for the 400m run finals tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. Larry finished fourth overall and second in his heat.
Junior Haley Reynolds threw a personal-best 49-09.75 to get into the shot put finals. She finished ninth overall.
At the end of day two, the women's team is tied for seventh with 22 points, while the men's team is in 11th with six points.
The final day of the outdoor championships will begin at 11 a.m. with Bougard, Logan Boss and Deja Givens.
